Frequently Asked Cannabis Questions

Due to evolving policies, ongoing stigma, and the relatively recent scientific discovery of the body’s endocannabinoid system, cannabis is still widely misunderstood. While research continues to grow, many people are left navigating conflicting information, unanswered questions, and unclear guidance around its use. My work helps bridge that gap by providing grounded, accessible, and informed support in a space that prioritizes education, clarity, and autonomy.

Will cannabis make me feel high?

Not always. Many cannabis products — especially those high in CBD — do not produce psychoactive effects and are used purely for therapeutic or wellness purposes.

What happens during an initial cannabis consultation?

Prior to our session, I collect as much information as you are comfortable sharing to give me a good idea of what you are looking for so I can best tailor my services to your needs. During a session, I take time to understand your goals, experience level, and comfort with cannabis. From there, I provide personalized, educational guidance on products, dosing, methods of use, and harm reduction customized to meet your goals and anticipated outcomes.

During follow-up session, we collaborate to further refine and personalize your program. This may include collaboration with your health provider as well, if you choose.

Who can benefit from cannabis?

Individuals seeking relief from specific symptoms or conditions such as:

  • Chronic pain or inflammation
  • Anxiety, stress, or sleep challenges
  • Nausea, appetite loss, or digestive issues
  • Muscle tension or spasms
  • Epilepsy
  • HIV/AIDS Wasting Syndrome
  • PTSD

Or those who want to:

  • Relax and unwind
  • Enhance social or creative experiences
  • Explore sensory awareness and presence
  • Enjoy cannabis in a controlled, intentional way

Do I need to have experience with cannabis before booking?

Not at all. My consultations are designed for all experience levels, including beginners. I meet you where you are and guide you at a pace that feels comfortable and accessible.

Will you tell me exactly what to buy or prescribe cannabis?

I do not prescribe cannabis or act as a medical provider. Instead, I offer education and guidance to help you make informed, autonomous decisions that align with your needs and local laws. I can, however, refer and advise on how to become a medical cannabis patient and prefer to work in cooperation with the established health team you already have in place.

How do you help ensure safe cannabis use?

I focus on harm reduction, which includes education around dosing, timing, product types, and how to avoid or respond to unwanted effects. My goal is to help you feel confident, informed, and in control of your experience.

What if I’ve had a negative experience with cannabis before?

That’s something many people come in with. We can explore what may have contributed to that experience and identify ways to approach cannabis more safely and intentionally moving forward.

Is everything we talk about private?

The short answer, yes. Your privacy is respected. I create a judgment-free space where you can openly ask questions and discuss your experiences without fear of stigma.

*However, Cannabis is currently still federally illegal and consultations are not covered by HIPPA so if I were ever to have my records subpoenaed, I would legally have to hand them over. In order to maintain my commitment to confidentiality, I offer the option to use a pseudonym in place of your government name.

Isn’t cannabis illegal?

Cannabis laws vary by state, and while it may be legal at the state level where you live, it is still considered federally illegal in the United States. I encourage all clients to be aware of and follow their local laws, and my services are focused on education and harm reduction. However, living in the Quad Cities gives me the unique position to advocate and counsel patients and individuals in Iowa and Illinois.

How do I know if cannabis is right for me?

That’s something we can explore together. My role is to provide information, context, and support so you can decide what feels aligned for your body, goals, and lifestyle.

Is cannabis the same as Hemp?

Cannabis and hemp come from the same plant family, but they are legally and chemically distinct.

“Hemp” typically refers to cannabis plants that contain very low levels of THC (0.3% or less) and are often used for CBD products, textiles, and other non-intoxicating purposes.

“Cannabis” (AKA marijuana) usually refers to plants with higher THC levels, which can produce psychoactive effects.

Both contain beneficial compounds, but they are used differently depending on their chemical profile and intended purpose.
